The Heirs

La Nouvelle Troupe du plateau de Saclay / Julie Timmerman

To mark the launch of the Nouvelle Troupe du plateau de Saclay, the Scène de recherche is opening its theater to students for an adaptation of *Les Héritiers*, published in 1964 by Pierre Bourdieu and Jean-Claude Passeron. This seminal text on students’ relationships with the university system analyzed inequalities in educational trajectories based on social background. In the midst of May 1968, the ENS Ulm theater troupe felt an urgent need to adapt this work and perform it in occupied universities and factories.

La Nouvelle Troupe, composed of students from Paris-Saclay University, revisits this sociological classic and its theatrical adaptation, and has partially rewritten it. Has the situation for students changed since then? Are they still bound by the social destiny dictated by their class background? Drawing on an updated study, this play for fifteen actors, in turn, holds up a mirror to the university community.

In partnership with the Department of Teaching and Research in the Humanities and Social Sciences at ENS Paris-Saclay.
